New safety rules inside the EU airports

In order to protect passengers from the liquid explosive’s terrorist threat, EU adopted new safety rules which impose limitations on the transport of liquids in carry-on bags. All passengers departing from EU airports to any destination (national flights included) are subject to these new rules. At the security check points any passenger and his/her carry-on bag will undergo security screening in order to detect prohibited items and liquid substances. All liquids in carry-on bags must be placed in containers of 100 ml or less (1/10 of litre or equivalent 100 gr). These containers must be placed inside a transparent re-sealable plastic bag of no more than 1 litre; 1 plastic bag per passenger is permitted. Since the 31st January 2014, Abruzzo Airport is equipped with the security screening for liquids and gels, referring to the European Regulation n. 246/2013. In order to facilitate security checks, you have to:

• take the plastic bag containing liquids from your carry-on bag and present it to the security personnel for the screening;
• take off jackets or overcoats: they will be inspected separately;
• remove laptops and other electronic equipment from your carry-on bag: they will be inspected separately.

Liquids include:

• water and other drinks, soups, syrups;
• creams, lotions, oils;
• perfumes;
• sprays;
• gels;
• pressure vessels, such as shaving foams and deodorants;
• paste substances, such as toothpaste;
• liquid and solid mixtures;
The list above is liable to further improvements.
In case of doubts before the flight, ask information to your airline or travel agent. Please have a kind collaboration with the security, airport and airline personnel.
All passengers have to comply with the check-in schedules and the security procedures, in accordance with the airline rules (terms and conditions are accepted at the moment of the ticket purchase), in order to avoid any inconvenience inside the airport. How security checks are conducted


Once arrived to the electronic gates, put the bar code of the boarding pass on the reader.
• Remove laptop computers and tablets from the carry-on bag and place them on the conveyor belt for x-ray inspection;
• Place jackets and anything you got with you (mobile phones, wallet, electronic equipments, belt etc.) in the special plastic container for the inspection; go through the metal detector and let the personnel carry out manual inspections, if necessary;
• The security personnel can ask you to take off some clothes (for example shoes) and can manually inspect hand bags or backpacks.

How to speed up border police checks


Adult European citizens can travel with a biometric passport in order to access e-gates for direct flights or flights coming from outside the EU. Abruzzo Airport invested in these new technologies to minimize waiting time.
Security screening for liquids, aerosols and gels.
Liquids, aerosols and gels must be placed in containers of 100 ml or less and kept separated from hand luggage.
All containers must be placed in a transparent re-sealable bag with maximum size of cm18x23. Exceptions are provided for: liquid medicines (with prescription); baby food (newborn must be present); special diets products. Any prohibited item or liquid exceeding the allowed quantities must be left at the airport.
These items cannot be guarded by the departure desk staff or by the security personnel.
